User added info

(Collie and Shetland Sheepdog mix) The Cosheltie is a medium to large canine that sports a thick coat that is on the long side. Pleasing you is his passion so he should be pretty easy to train. Since they have the tendency to herd, they may not be the best pet for small children.

History

Both parent breeds of the Cosheltie were herding animals. It is believed the Shetland Sheepdog is actually a descendant of the Scottish Collie - the larger and more aggressive of the Collie breeds.

Maintenance

Due to the long thick coat of the Cosheltie, you will need to brush often with a stiff brush. Using a comb will help to work out any matting in the coat. You may find it is very beneficial to have them groomed by a professional a couple of times per year to maintain their lovely coat. Also special attention should be paid to the ears.

Ideal Environment

A fenced yard will be a important tool to help this active canine burn off some of its energy. Interactive play is very important as well. The Cosheltie will excel in games of frisbee and catch. If you can, take him swimming, jogging, and on visits to the dog park. These family times will help this hybrid be the best he can be.

Dog Training!

If you're having problems training your dog or getting control, you should read our review of DogProblems.com. Adam will do whatever it takes to help you whip your dog into shape. I've used them to help with my Great Dane as well as help friends train their dogs. It's the first place I go to help answer users Questions. Many training issues are too extensive to answer in this forum, which is why I refer a lot of the load to his site. Update: I've been using and recommending DogProblems for three years now. I, as well as my users, value the techniques we've learned. I get weekly emails from users who have become better owners from the information they received.
